5 Tala Eight Commandment

Samoa's "Eight Commandments" series drew on the constitutional framework that has governed the islands since independence in 1962 — the first Polynesian nation to achieve it in the twentieth century. The constitution's founding principles, rooted in both Christian values and Fa'a Samoa customary tradition, were considered significant enough to commemorate individually across multiple issues.

KM#265 corresponds to the eighth of these constitutional precepts. The series was produced for the collector market rather than circulation, which accounts for the relatively modest silver weight against the oversized planchet.
