Beschrijving voorzijde Central field bears the national emblem of Bangladesh: the Shapla (water lily) in full bloom rising above stylised waves representing water, flanked on either side by symmetrical wheat sheaves forming a wreath. Four five-pointed stars are arranged above the flower, with a jute plant at the apex. The legend in Bengali script curves along the lower rim, reading 'Bangladesh Bank'. The design is framed by a continuous beaded border following the twelve-sided outline of the flan.

Beschrijving keerzijde Central device depicts a three-quarter perspective view of the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge spanning a broad river, rendered in fine detail with supporting piers visible beneath the roadway. A curved Bengali legend arcs across the upper field reading 'Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge 1996'. Along the lower rim, the denomination is expressed in both Latin script ('FIVE TAKA') and Bengali numeral and script ('৫ পাঁচ টাকা'). The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border conforming to the dodecagonal shape of the coin.
