| 正面描述 | The Ecuadorian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a condor with spread wings perched atop an oval shield that features Mount Chimborazo, a river with a steamship, and a radiant sun above. Flanking the shield are national flags and fasces with an axe. The legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR arcs along the upper periphery, while the year of issue appears in the lower exergue. |

Ecuador's central bank introduced this nickel clad steel issue as the sucre entered a prolonged devaluation spiral driven by oil revenue collapses and chronic fiscal deficits through the late 1980s. By the time production ended in 1991, inflation had eroded the 5-sucre coin's purchasing power to near insignificance — within a decade the entire sucre system would be abandoned in favor of full dollarization in 2000.
