Obverse description The Ecuadorian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an oval shield surmounted by a condor with spread wings, flanked by four national flags and palm and laurel branches; the shield bears a scene of Mount Chimborazo with a steamship on a river beneath a radiant sun. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR runs along the upper periphery, with the date 1973 inscribed in the lower exergue. The design is rendered in fine relief against a plain field, enclosed by a toothed border.
