Additional information

The quintuple sovereign has existed in British coinage since Henry VIII, though it has appeared sporadically — issued more as a demonstration of the mint's technical capability than as a coin intended for any practical monetary role. The 2024 issue is among the first five-sovereign pieces to bear Charles III's effigy, following his accession in September 2022 after the longest wait for the throne in British history.

Jody Clark's portrait of Charles, introduced across Royal Mint coinage in 2023, faces left — maintaining the traditional alternation of direction between successive monarchs.
