背面描述 A bold long cross extending to the inner beaded circle divides the field into four quarters, with an annulet placed in the second and third quarters and three bezants arranged in the first and fourth quarters. The date 1641 and the city name BALAGA appear within the legend, which is contained between two concentric beaded borders. The overall design follows the traditional medieval cross-type layout common to Catalan municipal coinages of the period.

附加信息

Balaguer was among the towns authorized to strike coinage during the Catalan Revolt of 1641 — the opening year of the Guerra dels Segadors, when the Principality formally renounced Philip IV of Spain and placed itself under French protection. The Generalitat needed hard currency fast, and multiple mints struck simultaneously to meet demand. Balaguer's output was modest and its run short; French military intervention proved expensive and largely disappointing for the Catalans, and the revolt's momentum had stalled well before the eventual capitulation to Madrid in 1652.
