| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features the state emblem of the Kyrgyz Republic rendered in relief at center, depicting a stylised eagle with spread wings above a tunduk (the crown of a traditional yurt) framed by wheat sheaves, enclosed within a circular legend reading КЫРГЫЗ РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ. Surrounding the central emblem, arranged in a circular pattern against a contrasting field with alternating matte and mirror-finish segments, are raised depictions of seven Kyrgyz circulating coins: 1 tyiyn, 10 tyiyn, 50 tyiyn, 1 som, 3 som, 5 som, and 10 som. The date 2018 appears in the lower field in large numerals. |

The Kyrgyz som was introduced on May 10, 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble after the newly independent republic found itself unable to control monetary policy within the ruble zone. The transition was abrupt — citizens had three days to exchange rubles at a fixed rate before the window closed.
This 2018 commemorative marks the currency's 25th anniversary. Copper-nickel commemoratives of this type see minimal circulation in Kyrgyzstan and typically move directly from bank distribution into collections.
