Opmerkingen

Kyrgyzstan introduced its national currency, the som, in May 1993 after breaking from the ruble zone — one of the first Central Asian states to do so. The move was politically contentious and technically rushed, with early notes printed abroad under contract while domestic banking infrastructure was still being established. By 1997, when this 5 Som was issued, the som had already lost significant ground to inflation, and low-denomination notes like this saw hard, fast circulation.

Pick 13 carries only a watermark as its primary security feature — notably sparse for the period, reflecting budget constraints rather than oversight.
