正面描述 The Peruvian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a vicuna in the upper left, a cinchona tree in the upper right, and a cornucopia in the lower half, flanked by laurel and palm branches tied at the base and surmounted by a civic wreath. The mint name LIMA and fineness indicator 9 DECIMOS FINO appear in the upper legend, flanked by the assayer initials Y B, with the inscription REPUBLICA PERUANA running along the left periphery. The date 1863 is prominently placed in the lower exergue. The entire design is bordered by a uniform reeded rim with fine dentilation.

附加信息

Peru's decimal coinage reform of 1863 replaced the old real system with the sol, adopted in direct alignment with the French metric monetary system and intended to facilitate trade with Europe and the growing Pacific merchant networks. The 5 soles denomination was struck only briefly before economic instability — compounded by the Chincha Islands War against Spain beginning in 1864 — disrupted mint operations and curtailed production. Surviving examples from the inaugural year are notably scarce in any grade.
