Kenya's earliest Central Bank issues were printed by Bradbury Wilkinson before the country had established its own security printing infrastructure. This 5 Shillings note, Pick 6, carries "Western numerals only" in its catalog designation to distinguish it from a companion variety that incorporates Eastern Arabic numeral forms — a distinction that matters for completeness but reflects a fairly minor typographic decision rather than a separate emission.
Duncan Ndegwa served as the first Kenyan-born Governor of the Central Bank, appointed in 1967 after the departure of the bank's founding British leadership. His signature dominates this series.
