Saint Lucia's only government-issued paper currency, this 5 Shillings note from 1920 was produced under the authority of the colonial administration rather than any chartered bank — an unusual arrangement for the British Caribbean, where private and later Crown Agents banking was the norm. De La Rue's involvement guaranteed technical quality, but the issue was never repeated; subsequent currency needs in the Windward Islands were met through regional banking arrangements rather than individual colonial emissions.
As Pick #1 with no successor series, surviving examples represent the entirety of Saint Lucia's standalone paper currency history.
