Obverse description Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in an intaglio-engraved oval vignette at left, wearing a tiara and jewelled necklace, set within an ornate guilloche border. The issuer title EAST AFRICAN CURRENCY BOARD appears in a curved panel at top centre, with the denomination FIVE SHILLINGS in large letterpress below, repeated in Arabic script and Gujarati script. Six manuscript signatures of Board members appear in two groups flanking a central watermark space, with the serial number printed twice in black.
