The Valley of Kidron issue belongs to Israel's "Holy Land Sites" gold series, which the Bank of Israel launched in the early 1980s as both a numismatic product and a foreign currency earner during a period of acute economic stress. Israel's inflation rate exceeded 400% in 1984 — the same year this coin was struck — before the government implemented the 1985 Economic Stabilization Plan, which abruptly halted the crisis. Gold commemoratives from this window were priced and sold almost entirely to overseas buyers, as domestic purchasing power had collapsed too severely for the local market to absorb them.
