Additional information

Hussain ibn Sulayman — better known as Shah Sultan Husayn — presided over one of the most catastrophic collapses in Safavid history. His reign ended in 1722 when Afghan Ghilzai forces under Mahmud Hotaki besieged Isfahan for seven months, forcing the shah's abdication and effectively ending Safavid imperial power. These coins from 1716–1718 were struck just four to six years before that collapse, at a moment when the dynasty's military and fiscal systems were already visibly deteriorating.

Tabriz, as a major northwestern mint city close to Ottoman frontier pressure, remained active through these final years but output was inconsistent. The "Type C" classification reflects die-axis or formula changes that numismatists use to sequence the late Husayni silver issues.
