| Reverse description | Central field displays the Shi'a Kalima in multiple lines of naskh/nasta'liq script, with the first three lines reading the Twelver Shi'a profession of faith: 'La ilaha illa Allah / Muhammad rasul Allah / Ali wali Allah' (There is no god but God / Muhammad is the Messenger of God / Ali is the Friend of God). The names of the Twelve Imams are inscribed in a continuous line below, running around the lower portion of the field. The entire design is surrounded by a plain circular border, typical of Safavid hammered coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. |
