| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents a right-facing bust portrait of Melchora Aquino, the revered Filipino patriot known as 'Tandang Sora,' her hair swept back and gathered in a bun at the nape of the neck. The large numeral 5 is prominently rendered to the lower left of the portrait. The name MELCHORA AQUINO is inscribed in two lines within the field to the right of the bust. The denomination legend LIMANG SENTIMOS arcs boldly across the upper periphery, and a fine beaded border encircles the entire design. |

The Sentimos series launched in 1967 as part of the Philippines' decimal conversion, replacing the Centavo under Republic Act 4100. The Bangko Sentral had been pushing for decimalization since the mid-1950s, and the seven-year span of this issue reflects a transitional period during which old Centavo coins remained legal tender alongside the new denominations — an overlap that kept small-denomination brass pieces in heavy daily circulation and accounts for the worn survivors typically encountered today.
