| Obverse description | At center, the Imperial Chrysanthemum Seal (kikumon) rendered in high relief with sixteen petals radiating from a central boss, enclosed within a plain inner border. The denomination numeral 五 (five) appears to the upper right of the chrysanthemum, with the denomination character 錢 (sen) to the upper left, both rendered in bold kanji script. Two small circular pellets flank the central device in the mid-field at left and right. Below the chrysanthemum, a stylized spray of Paulownia (kiri) blossoms and foliage is arranged symmetrically, with three paulownia florets visible at center. The entire design is contained within a prominent beaded border. |
