Reverse description A centrally placed vertically-lined circular sun disc from which sixteen bold rays radiate to the beaded border, filling the entire field. Twelve five-petalled cherry blossoms are arranged in a ring around the central disc, interspersed among the radiating rays. Japanese characters reading 大日本 (Great Japan) are distributed across the upper field between the rays, and 昭和十三年 (Shōwa Year 13) is similarly distributed across the lower field, all set against the dramatic sunburst background. The design is contained within a beaded inner border.
