| Beschrijving keerzijde | A full-length figure of Saint John the Baptist stands facing, depicted in his traditional role as precursor, draped in a rough animal skin and holding a tall processional banner or staff in his left hand. A Paschal Lamb reclines at his feet in the lower right of the field, rendered in fine relief against a plain ground. The arc of the legend 'NON SVRREXIT MAIOR' curves around the upper periphery, a quotation from Scripture attesting to the greatness of the Baptist. The denomination 'S · V' appears in the exergue below, separated by a dot. |

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta occupies a peculiar position in numismatics — a non-territorial sovereign entity issuing coins with no practical circulation. These pieces were struck primarily for collectors and to assert juridical sovereignty, which the Order had maintained in international law since losing physical control of Malta to Napoleon in 1798. The 1962–63 gold issues were among the earliest modern coinages produced under Grand Master Angelo de Mojana di Cologna, who took office in 1962.
Fr#4 is a scarce entry in Friedberg's gold census, with mintages kept deliberately low.
