Reverse description The reverse features a four-line Latin inscription PRO DEO ET PATRIA ('For God and Fatherland') arranged within an ornate cartouche of scrolling foliate decorations, with the date 1656 displayed in the fourth line below. The text is framed by an inner beaded circle and an outer plain border, with further decorative scroll-work at the top and bottom of the central field. The calligraphic lettering, characteristic of mid-17th century Swiss civic coinage, lends the design an elegant and formal appearance.
