| Additional information |
Christian VII's administration of the duchies operated under a separate monetary ordinance from the Danish crown proper, which is why Schleswig-Holstein coinage of this period carries its own denomination structure rather than aligning with Copenhagen issues. The 1/112 Speciesthaler fraction reflects the Hamburg-influenced reckoning still prevalent in the duchy's commercial dealings with the North German states.
Christian VII himself was incapacitated by mental illness for most of his reign; effective governance passed first to Johann Friedrich Struensee, executed in 1772, then to the crown prince's regency council.
