Beschrijving voorzijde	Entirely typeset emergency issue in a plain letterpress format, enclosed within a diamond-pattern border frame. The heading "Interims-Banknote" in Gothic script appears at top, with the issuer name "Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Bank" in bold type and the denomination "Fünf Rupien" in large display letterpress below. The place and date of issue "Daressalam / Tabora, 15. August 1915" are given at lower left, with two manuscript facsimile signatures and the branch designation "Zweigniederlassung Daressalam / In Vollmacht" at lower right.

Beschrijving keerzijde	Plain typeset reverse within a simple rectangular border, with serial numbers printed at upper left and lower right. Three text blocks in German and Swahili declare that the value of the note is fully secured by the Imperial Government of German East Africa, followed by a German-language counterfeit warning. A bold "TABORA" overprint stamp is struck across the centre of the note.
