Opmerkingen

Banco Nacional Ultramarino issued this note for circulation in Portuguese India — Goa, Daman, and Diu — where the rupia remained the local currency distinct from the metropolitan escudo. The BNU held the note-issuing monopoly for Portugal's overseas territories, and the 1945 date places this squarely in the wartime period when Goa's neutral status under Portuguese sovereignty made it an unusual economic island surrounded by British India.

Bradbury Wilkinson's intaglio work for colonial issuers of this period is generally fine, and the P#35 series is no exception. These small-denomination rupias circulated hard and survivors in decent condition are not abundant.
