Opmerkingen

The Governo Geral do Estado da India issued paper currency for Portuguese India from Goa, a colonial arrangement that kept monetary affairs administratively separate from Lisbon. This 5 Rupias note from 1899 belongs to a series that bridged the local rupee-based economy with Portuguese imperial finance — an awkward pairing that produced its own accounting headaches for merchants trading between Goa, Bombay, and Lisbon simultaneously.

Pick 11 is scarce in any condition. The series suffered from poor storage in the humid coastal climate of Goa, and surviving examples frequently show foxing and paper weakness along the folds.
