Keresidenan Lampung issued this note during the revolutionary period when the Dutch blockade had effectively severed the Republic's access to centrally printed currency. Regional residencies across Sumatra were authorized — or simply compelled by circumstance — to produce their own emergency issues to keep local economies functioning. Lampung was one of several Sumatran residencies that did so.
Tandjungkarang, named as the place of payment, was the administrative capital of the residency at the time, later merged with Telukbetung to form what is now Bandar Lampung.
