Daerah Karesidenan Kediri was one of several Indonesian regional residencies that issued their own emergency currency during the Indonesian National Revolution, when the newly proclaimed republic lacked the infrastructure to supply uniform banknotes across Java. These regional issues filled a genuine transactional vacuum — Dutch forces controlled key urban centers and printing facilities, forcing local administrations to improvise.
The Kediri residency notes are among the more primitively produced of these wartime emissions, printed locally with limited equipment. P#113A is notably scarce in any condition; survival rates for these provisional issues were low, partly because they were superseded quickly and partly because wartime paper stocks degraded badly in Java's humid climate.
