Obverse description Allegorical seated female figure with lions in an oval vignette at left, and a classical female bust in an oval vignette at right, both framed by ornate guilloche scrollwork with numeral 5 in each corner. The British Royal Coat of Arms appears centrally as an underprint alongside the serial number repeated twice. A bold red guilloche underprint bearing the word FIVE spans the central text area, which carries the promise-to-pay inscription dated 1st January 1881 at the Haldamulle branch, payable at the Bank in Colombo.
