| Additional information |
In 2011, the Reserve Bank of India released a commemorative 5 rupee coin honoring the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore — Nobel laureate, polymath, and the man who wrote the national anthems of both India and Bangladesh. A small number escaped the mint as mules, struck without the denomination. These pieces entered circulation before the error was identified, making them genuine mint errors rather than deliberate varieties or post-mint alterations. KM#393 covers the regular issue; error mules of this type are unlisted in standard references and surface only occasionally.
