| Obverse description | The Lion Capital of Ashoka, India's national emblem, is depicted centrally in the field, showing three lions passant on an abacus adorned with the Dharma Chakra and other animals in relief. Beneath the capital, the national motto सत्यमेव जयते (Satyameva Jayate, meaning 'Truth alone triumphs') is inscribed in Devanagari script. The large numeral '5' appears in the lower field denoting the denomination. The peripheral legend reads भारत to the left and INDIA to the right in the upper arc, with रूपये to the lower left and RUPEES to the lower right, in bilingual Devanagari and Latin script. |
