| 表面の説明 | The national arms of Sri Lanka depicted in high relief at centre, comprising a golden lion passant holding a sword in its right forepaw, set within a circular roundel surrounded by a traditional petalled border. Surmounting the shield is the Dhamma Chakra (Buddhist wheel of law). Flanking the base of the shield are a bo leaf on each side, with a traditional water pot (purna-kalasha) at the foot. The entire composition rests on a stylised plinth. A beaded border runs along the coin's rim. |

Flanking the numeral at centre are the denomination inscriptions 'රුපියල් පහයි' in Sinhala and 'ஐந்து ரூபாய்' in Tamil, with 'FIVE RUPEES' in Latin below. The date appears in the lower exergue.
