Beschrijving voorzijde The Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, depicted centrally with three lions visible atop an abacus bearing a Dharma Chakra (wheel) flanked by a bull and horse in relief. The motto 'सत्यमेव जयते' (Satyameva Jayate, meaning 'Truth Alone Triumphs') appears in Devanagari script immediately below the capital. The denomination '5' is prominently rendered in large numerals at the lower centre, with 'RUPEES' in Latin script to the right and 'रुपये' in Devanagari to the left. The country name 'भारत' in Devanagari arcs along the upper left and 'INDIA' in Latin script arcs along the upper right of the coin's field.

Beschrijving keerzijde Three celebrated heroes of the Indian Uprising of 1857 are depicted in portrait within the central field: Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, General Tatya Tope, and Bahadur Shah Zafar II, the last Mughal Emperor. The commemorative legend 'प्रथम स्वतंत्रता संग्राम' in Devanagari and 'THE FIRST WAR OF INDEPENDENCE' in Latin script arc around the upper portion of the coin. Below the portraits, the anniversary inscription '१५० वर्ष / 150 YEARS' is rendered in both Devanagari and Latin numerals, with the date range '1857-2007' appearing in the exergue to mark the 150th anniversary of the uprising.
