Beschrijving keerzijde The central device depicts a stylized human hand grasping a bouquet of grain stalks — including wheat, sorghum, and rice — alongside the circular FAO emblem on the right side of the hand, rendered in bold relief against a plain field. This design commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. The date range '1945-1995' is inscribed in the lower central field. The legend 'खाद्य एवं कृषि संगठन' curves along the upper periphery in Devanagari script, while 'FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANISATION' arches along the lower and right periphery in Latin script.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued under the Food and Agriculture Organization coinage program, a United Nations initiative that recruited member states to mint specially designated coins as vehicles for agricultural awareness messaging. India participated repeatedly across several decades, producing FAO-themed rupee coins from the early 1970s onward. The 1995 issue falls near the tail end of active FAO coinage participation globally, as the program had largely wound down by the mid-1990s after its peak during the World Food Conference years of the 1970s.

KM#157 was struck at the Bombay Mint, which resumed FAO-related production intermittently throughout this period.
