| Opmerkingen |
The "Dated Reverse" designation distinguishes this note from the earlier P#94 issue by the addition of the year of printing on the reverse — a change the Reserve Bank of India introduced partly in response to public and institutional pressure for greater currency transparency following high-profile counterfeiting cases in the early 2000s. The 5 Rupee denomination had been a persistent target, its relatively low value making it economically attractive for crude forgery operations operating outside major urban centers.
Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India, a government-owned entity spun off from the Ministry of Finance in 2006, produced this note domestically — a point worth noting given that earlier Indian small-denomination issues had at times relied on foreign printers. The watermark remains the sole listed security feature, modest even by the standards of the period.
