Obverse description Central device features the Lion Capital of Ashoka (Sarnath pillar emblem), depicted in three-quarter view with four lions atop an abacus bearing the Dharma Chakra. The national motto 'Satyameva Jayate' (Truth Alone Triumphs) appears in Devanagari script below the emblem. The bilingual country name 'भारत' in Devanagari and 'INDIA' in Latin script flank the upper field. The denomination '5 RUPEES' in Latin script and 'रूपये' in Devanagari appear in the lower field. The overall design is standard to the Republic of India definitive coinage series.
