Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the Dandi March, the 1930 act of civil disobedience in which Gandhi led a 240-mile walk to the Arabian Sea coast to produce salt in defiance of British colonial taxation. The Salt Acts had long prohibited Indians from collecting or selling salt independently, making even a basic dietary necessity subject to imperial revenue extraction. The march directly catalyzed mass non-cooperation and drew international press coverage that embarrassed the Raj.
The stainless steel composition distinguishes this from the cupro-nickel KM#325 issue of the same type — a material substitution driven by rising base metal costs in Indian coinage during the early 2000s.
