正面描述 Central field features a traditional Nepalese tantric yantra design composed of interlocking geometric compartments arranged in a square mandala pattern, with a trident (trishula) enclosed within a small circle at the very center. The royal legend in Devanagari script naming King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev is inscribed across the compartments of the yantra. The Bikram Sambat date 2038 appears at the base of the design. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded border running along the coin's periphery.

附加信息

Nepal's 1981 five-rupee issue falls within the long reign of King Birendra, who came to the throne in 1972 following the death of his father Mahendra. The coin was struck under the Nepal Rastra Bank, which had been established in 1956 to wrest monetary control away from the Rana oligarchy that had effectively privatized the country's financial system for over a century. Birendra himself would reign until 2001, when he was killed in the royal massacre carried out by Crown Prince Dipendra.
