Pick 35 covers a decade-long run during which the Reserve Bank of India was still working through the transitional identity of post-independence coinage and currency. The 5 Rupee denomination had existed in paper form under British administration, and retaining it in the new republic's early note issues was partly practical — the value remained economically meaningful for daily transactions at a time when per capita income kept the 5 Rupee note in constant circulation rather than savings.
Ink transfer to the facing note is a known issue with heavily circulated examples from this series, particularly from the mid-1960s production runs.
