| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Republic of Maldives occupies the central field, depicting a coconut palm above a crescent and star motif flanked by two crossed national flags, with a traditional dhow sail beneath rendered on a ribbon cartouche bearing an Arabic inscription. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES' arcs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, while the dual dating '١٣٩٨ - 1978' appears in the lower field, combining the Hijri year in Eastern Arabic numerals and the Gregorian year.
