Bradbury Wilkinson printed this series for the Maldives Monetary Authority in the early 1980s, a period when the Authority was still a young institution — it had only been established in 1981, replacing the earlier Maldivian Monetary Authority. The 5 Rufiyaa was part of the first full issue under the new central banking framework.
Bradbury Wilkinson was acquired by De La Rue in 1990, the same year the firm ceased independent operations. Notes from their final decade of printing are identifiable by the New Malden imprint.
