5 Roubles Yekaterinburg

The Yekaterinburg Branch issued these notes in the summer of 1918 during the brief window when anti-Bolshevik forces controlled the Urals region. The branch was operating under the authority of the Provisional Siberian Government, which was scrambling to maintain functioning currency in territory it held only tenuously. Yekaterinburg fell to the Red Army on 25 July 1919, and whatever note stocks remained were either seized or destroyed.

Circulation was geographically constrained and short-lived, which makes surviving examples less common than their relatively late print date might suggest. The S-prefix Pick classification places this firmly in the Russian Civil War provisional issues — a category notorious for attribution disputes, as many similar branch notes were later assigned to overlapping governmental authorities.
