Obverse description The silver centre features the Russian State emblem — a double-headed eagle displayed, with wings spread and heads turned outward, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, enclosed by a beaded border. Below the eagle, the legend БАНК РОССИИ (Bank of Russia) arcs along the lower portion of the centre, flanked by the fineness marks Ag 900 to the left and 19.2 to the right, indicating the silver content and weight of the centre. The gold outer ring bears the denomination ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ (Five Roubles) in bold Cyrillic lettering along the upper arc, with the date 2004г. at the bottom, and the gold fineness Au 900 to the lower left and the mint weight 23.3 with the Moscow Mint monogram ММД to the lower right. The bimetallic composition creates a striking contrast between the frosted silver eagle and the polished gold ring.

Reverse description The silver centre presents a detailed architectural view of the Rostov Kremlin (Rostov Veliky), depicting its massive fortification walls and a prominent round watchtower in the foreground, with multiple Orthodox churches and their characteristic onion domes surmounted by crosses rising behind the walls in the middle and background. The composition is rendered in finely detailed relief against a deeply mirrored field, conveying the grandeur and historical significance of this ancient Russian landmark. The gold outer ring carries the city name РОСТОВ (Rostov) in bold Cyrillic lettering along the lower arc, set against the dark polished ring field.
