Sochi's municipal administration issued emergency scrip in 1919 during one of the most chaotic stretches of the Russian Civil War — the city changed hands repeatedly between White, Red, and briefly Green Army forces throughout that year. Local authorities across the former empire improvised their own currency when central supply collapsed entirely, and Sochi was no exception. These city-issued obligations circulated alongside a bewildering mix of Denikin's Armed Forces notes, Soviet issues, and other regional scrip, all of uncertain exchange value.
The S585B designation indicates a variant within the series — likely a color or signature difference from S585A, though surviving examples of either are genuinely scarce given the short window of municipal authority in the region.
