Pereslavl-Zalessky, founded by Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152 — the same prince credited with founding Moscow — sits on Lake Pleshcheyevo in Yaroslavl Oblast and was a significant power center of medieval Rus before its absorption into the Muscovite state.
