Reverse description The celebrated equestrian monument to Peter the Great, known as the Bronze Horseman, is depicted in central relief, showing the tsar mounted on a rearing horse atop a massive granite Thunder Stone pedestal; the inscription on the pedestal reads PETRO primo CATHARINA secunda MDCCLXXXII in Latin. In the left background, the Peter and Paul Fortress with its distinctive spire is visible, with the Neva River rendered in the lower left field. The curved legend ПАМЯТНИК ПЕТРУ ПЕРВОМУ (Monument to Peter the First) arcs along the upper rim, the date 1782 appears to the right, and the city name ЛЕНИНГРАД (Leningrad) is inscribed along the lower border.
