Part of the Bank of Russia's long-running "Cities of Military Glory" series, this issue commemorates Kishinev — modern Chișinău, capital of Moldova — in recognition of its designation as a City of Military Glory by presidential decree in 2012. The honor marks the city's role in the August 1944 Jassy–Kishinev offensive, a Soviet operation that encircled and destroyed two German armies in under a week, one of the most tactically decisive actions on the Eastern Front.
