| 背面描述 | The central vignette presents an intaglio view of a section of the medieval Novgorod Kremlin wall with its characteristic tower, rendered in dark green, with trees and the Volkhov River visible in the background. Below the vignette, an ornate cartouche bears the city name НОВГОРОД in Cyrillic script, flanked by horizontal security line elements. A multicolour guilloche border band occupies the right side of the note, with the large denomination numeral '5' printed in intaglio at lower right, and the year of issue '1997' in blue at the lower right margin. |

| 备注 |
The 1997 series was Russia's first major redesign after the post-Soviet hyperinflationary years, replacing the 1993 and 1995 issues that had been printed in enormous quantities simply to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. By 1997, the rouble had been redenominated at 1,000-to-1, and this 5-rouble note represented the lowest practical denomination of the new currency — though inflation had already made it nearly worthless in daily use within a few years.
The note was quietly discontinued and withdrawn from circulation by the early 2000s, making circulated survivors somewhat harder to find than their high print runs would suggest.
