| 表面の説明 | At right, an intaglio portrait of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, faces left against a guilloche underprint. The central vignette presents an aerial view of the Shaybah Oil Field, situated at the northern edge of the Rub' Al-Khali desert. Above the vignette, Arabic inscriptions identify the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority, the relevant Royal Decree number and date, and the name of King Abdullah; at the base of the note, the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority flank the denomination in Arabic numerals. |

The P#38 5 Riyal series was issued as part of SAMA's broader currency refresh ahead of the 2020 series, with Thomas De La Rue handling production as they had for much of Saudi Arabia's modern note output. De La Rue's long relationship with the Gulf states made them the default choice for this denomination, though the contract was not without competition — the authority had been diversifying suppliers on higher denominations during the same period.
Cotton substrate and a basic security thread package place this firmly in the lower-denomination tier, where the cost-to-security ratio favors durability over sophistication. High circulation volume means worn examples are far more common than clean ones.
