| 正面描述 | Central field dominated by a large stylized dollar sign combined with the numeral '5', rendered in bold relief. A decorative spray of hibiscus blossoms occupies the lower portion of the field, referencing Malaysia's national flower. The circular legend 'BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA' arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination '$5' prominently displayed at centre. The design is executed in a clean, modern graphic style against a polished field. |

The 1986 PATA Conference — Pacific Asia Travel Association — was held in Kuala Lumpur, and Bank Negara issued this commemorative to mark Malaysia's role as host. Yang di-Pertuan Agong VIII refers to Mahmood Iskandar of Johor, who held the rotating kingship from 1984 to 1989 under Malaysia's unique elective monarchy system, in which the rulers of the nine Malay states take turns occupying the throne in five-year terms.
The .500 silver fineness was characteristic of Malaysian commemoratives of this period, keeping production costs manageable while retaining the prestige of a silver issue.
