Qadhi Muhammad Mahmud al-Zubayri was a poet and nationalist politician assassinated in April 1965, likely on the orders of royalist forces during the North Yemen Civil War — the same conflict that had drawn Egyptian troops in by the tens of thousands. This coin was struck four years after his death as the republican government consolidated its position following the Saudi-brokered peace that ended direct Egyptian involvement.
