Rocky ground elements appear beneath the animal in the lower portion of the design. The composition is contained within a toothed inner border and reeded outer edge. |

Issued as part of Oman's WWF conservation series, this coin was struck the same year the Arabian oryx was functionally extinct in the wild — the last confirmed wild individual had been shot in 1972. The series was among the earliest Gulf state coinage to engage directly with international conservation funding, with proceeds partially directed toward captive breeding programs then operating in the United States.
